The 3 Key Goal Areas in Life:

My life lessons have taught me that there are 3 Key Goal Areas in Life that we focus most of our time and energy towards. These 3 Key Areas are where most of us that set out to develop and achieve our written goals begin. There are many sub-groups to each one when you begin to break it down but my purpose is to help you plan for your best year yet in 2013 when setting your goals centered around these 3 key areas.

The 3 Key Goals which we in someway or another surround our life’s around daily:

1. Relationships: Both personally and professionally, there are always going to be people in your life that help move you along, give you purpose and allow you the opportunity to lead, add value to as well as love and care for. The goals you set in this area, are who do you need in your life to help you grow, who are those that you need to help and add value too, and who are those that you need as mentors and coaches to help you develop to your greatest potential. Identify 3-5 people and go out and work on adding value to them, helping them in any way that you can. Leaders always touch a heart before they ask for a hand. Be a person of value that values others, and this attitude will help you develop your “Inner Circle” that will help you grow and develop both personally and professionally.

2. Your Health: This one is close to my heart being I’m a 44 month cancer survivor, and a 210 day cancer caregiver as I write this posting to my best friend, wife and business partner. One thing cancer or any life threatening obstacle will do is give you a “wake up” call. As a speaker, trainer and coach I spend a lot of time on the road, and when you live that type life, sometimes it can be hard to stay focused to eating good, exercising daily and  keeping to a routine. Your health, is key to your happiness and success, it’s the one thing that we think we can control. But you never know sometimes what awaits you, so you need to stay focused to a daily plan of keeping your “lean-mean-selling-machine” in good working order! Much of what we do regarding our health is a choice, behavior, and attitude that’s in our control. Take care of yourself and make that your major goal so you will be around a long time to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

3. Financial Goals: Got to pay the bills, got to build your savings, retirement and have a little left over to fulfill your dreams! Some say “it’s all about the money” some may be right, but without great relationships and good health, the money might not mean as much. Sure we’ve got to have an income, businesses need to generate profits, taxes need to be paid, people need to give, charities need your help, money makes the world turn. It’s key to set goals on increasing your wealth, increasing your net-worth, increasing your value to the markets so you can ask for the money. Maybe it’s a new career your goal will be focused to or starting your business, or building your business, whatever this goal is you’re going to need people, relationships to help you. Whatever you do, don’t over due the goal, keep it simple and achievable, example: if your goal is to make $150,000 in 2013 and you’re in the current area of let’s say $68,000, this maybe a stretch unless you’ve really got a plan and support. Make it real, something that you can achieve don’t set yourself up for failure, set yourself up for success.

I recommend you take some time and thought into these 3 Key Goal Areas in Life, write them out, ask for advice, seek out a mentor, allow others to help you achieve your goals. Caution: don’t set the goal so high you can’t reach it, keep it simple and real and I believe you’ll be on your way to greater success in 2013!
